The search for two sisters, who went missing in Aberdeen on Tuesday morning, has been extended to the coast, police said.

Eliza and Henrietta Huszti – who are part of a set of triplets – were last seen in the city on Market Street at Victoria Bridge at about 2.12am on Tuesday.

Police will continue their search on land in the surrounding area after divers scoured the River Dee near to the location where the sisters were last captured on CCTV.

Detectives said on Friday they did not believe anything suspicious had happened to the women.

The sister’s relatives urged people not to spread unfounded rumours about the their disappearance. József, their brother, said the sisters, who are from Hungary but moved to Scotland about seven years ago, reside in Aberdeen city centre and appeared to be “fine” in the days before they went missing. The pair had a 40-minute phone conversation with their mother, and everything seemed normal.

Their sister, Edit Huszti, told the BBC that she spoke to her sisters via a video call on New Year’s Eve, and they appeared happy and cheerful. She said the sisters were very close.

Huszti added that it would be out of character for her sisters to venture out on the street during the early hours of the morning.

Eliza and Henrietta are described as white and slim, with long, brown hair. It is understood that Henrietta works in a Costa Coffee shop in Aberdeen.

Ch Insp Darren Bruce from Police Scotland said: “Extensive inquiries are ongoing to trace Eliza and Henrietta, and searches are being carried out in and around the area where they were last seen.

“Local officers, led by specialist search advisers, are being assisted by resources, including police dogs and our marine unit. The Torry side of Victoria Bridge, where they were last seen, has many commercial and industrial units.”

Bruce urged businesses in the Esplanade and Menzies Road area to review their CCTV footage from the early morning on Tuesday and also asked members of the public with dashcam footage from that time to contact police.

“We are continuing to speak to people who know Eliza and Henrietta, and we urge anyone who has seen them or who has any information regarding their whereabouts to please contact 101, quoting incident number 0735 of Tuesday 7 January 2025.”
