Former Pa. high school football star among the injured in New Orleans terror attack
A former Pennsylvania high school football star was reportedly among those injured in the New Year’s Eve terror attack in New Orleans.
Ryan Quigley, who was the Philadelphia Catholic League’s Class AA Most Valuable Player as a running back and defensive back in 2014 while at Lansdale Catholic, is undergoing treatment and is resting with family and friends by his side after being injured in the attack.
Dan Sokil of The Reporter (Lansdale) reported that Quigley was in New Orleans alongside fellow Princeton grad and football player Tiger Bech, who was killed in the attack, for the holiday.
A GoFundMe launched to support Quigley’s recovery has already collected nearly $80,000. The GoFundMe said the money will go to assist Bech’s family with funeral expenses and other needs and to also support Quigley with his medical expenses.
“Ryan is a fighter, and his loved ones are rallying around him as he faces this challenge,” the post reads. “We want to honor Tiger’s memory by easing the burden on his family.”
A post to the Lansdale Catholic High School Facebook page said the community is “praying for the full healing and complete recovery of Ryan Quigley.”
“We are incredibly proud to count Ryan among our graduates, and we are inspired by the ways in which his LC classmates are coming together to support his family during this difficult time,” the post reads.
As many as 15 people were killed when Shamsud-Din Jabbar, 42, plowed his truck into a crowd on Bourbon Street during the New Year’s Eve celebration.
Bech’s mother, Michelle, told NBC News her son was on Bourbon Street with a friend when he was hit by the truck. He was later pronounced dead at a hospital.
