“There is something weird going on here.” Brainstorm Media has revealed the funny official trailer for an indie comedy called Daniel’s Gotta Die, made by filmmaker Jeremy Lalonde. This initially premiered back in 2022 at the Austin Film Festival and has played at a number of other film festivals but is only now getting an official release this year – including on VOD this February. Daniel Powell’s plan to reconnect with his siblings hits a snag when he discovers they all want to kill him for his inheritance. As the brothers and sisters are forced to spend the weekend together at the family beach house on the Cayman Islands, one thing becomes painfully clear: Daniel’s going to find out what family means, even if it kills him. The cast includes comedian Bob Saget in his final role before he passed away, plus Mary Lynn Rajskub, Carly Chaikin, Jason Jones, Chantel Riley, with Joel David Moore as the unfortunate Daniel and rock legend Iggy Pop as the recently departed rich patriarch. This great cast of comedians makes it look like a funny watch.
Here’s the official trailer (+ poster) for Jeremy Lalonde’s comedy Daniel’s Gotta Die, from YouTube:
In the comedy Daniel’s Gotta Die, Bob Saget is among a group of so-called grieving family members who have just learned that the matriarch of a very wealthy family has passed away. In his will, he left his vast fortune to his children and loved ones—however, there’s a stipulation. Each of his children, as spoiled and entitled as they are, must spend one weekend together. If they don’t adhere to the rules, the entire family estate will go to Daniel, the favorite son. To his chagrin, Daniel, who was actually looking forward to the weekend, soon discovers that his siblings and relatives are now plotting for his death. Daniel’s Gotta Die is directed by Canadian comedian / filmmaker Jeremy Lalonde, director of the films Sex After Kids, The Go-Getters, James vs. His Future Self, and Ashgrove previously, plus a few shorts. The screenplay is written by Matthew Dressel. It’s produced by Leah Jaunzems, Doug Murray, William G. Santor, Nicholas Tabarrok. This initially premiered at the 2022 Austin Film Festival a few years ago. Brainstorm Media debuts Daniel’s Gotta Die in select US theaters + on VOD starting February 21st, 2025 this winter. Look funny enough?
